Oncology

Cancers, also called carcinomas, are malignant tumors whose cells differ from healthy cells. There are numerous forms of cancer which can arise in all organs of the human body. Cancer cells carry on their activities with absolute disregard for other cells around them, and they have the ability to multiply uncontrollably. They may infiltrate into neighbouring healthy tissues and destroy them. Most cancers are named after the type of cell they consist of or the organ they grow in.

In Germany, cancer accounts for more than 200,000 deaths each year. The disease does not always end lethal. Continued progress in early diagnosis and treatment options will better the chances for healing and improve the course of disease in an increasing number of patients.

The aim of current studies on cancer treatment is to find out if it is possible to adequately administer substances via inhalation.

Interleukins activate the immune system. Studies addressing the inhalation of this agent have not yet been completed, but are expected to present positive results. And experts have already begun to recommend aldesleukin for use in inhalation therapy.
